The emotional well-being of our pupils is of the utmost importance to everyone here at Alexandra school. All our staff offer the children emotional support as part of their day-to-day interactions with their classes whether it be reassurance, positive recognition, encouragement, a listening ear, or a cuddle when they feel sad. In fact,

everything they can to make your children feel safe, secure, and happy in school. We feel strongly that if a child needs additional emotional support for any reason during their time with us, then it should also be available, and we have different Nurture Groups in school which offer this additional support.  

One of these groups is SAP. SAP stands for Student Assisted Progamme and its purpose is to offer a safe space in school where children can share their thoughts, their feelings, and any concerns that they may be having in their lives. Trained SAP facilitators will provide the children with emotional support to help them work through any difficulties they are experiencing which affect their own development, education, and future life chances.    

The group will meet weekly for 8 weeks. Each weekly session will last around an hour. There are plenty of hands-on activities and games and we find the children very often do not want the sessions to end! The children benefit hugely from the small group sessions and feedback is positive both from the children and their class teachers.   

There are several ways a child can access SAP. Firstly, their teacher can refer them for the group. Secondly, the children can refer themselves to be considered for the group and thirdly, by their parent/carer. If your child has been selected for SAP, please rest assured that we will tell you nearer the time and answer any questions you may have.
