Croeso i Dosbarth Cedar
Welcome to Dobarth Cedar’s class page. In Dosbarth Cedar, Mrs Edwards is our class teacher and Mrs Jones and Miss Jones are our class teaching assistants.
Children in Dosbarth Cedar are encouraged to explore different areas in the classroom, both inside and outside. This provides great opportunities for the children to explore, discover and learn. We aim to provide the children with as many real life experiences as possible through fun, hands on and engaging activities. In Dosbarth Cedar, we really encourage independence to develop confident and capable learners. We have high expectations so our children can reach their full potential. There are lots of exciting opportunities in Dosbarth Cedar and we carefully monitor the progress of each individual child. Above all else we want children to feel happy and safe in school as part of Ysgol Alexandra.
Here on our class page, you will find all of the important information and documents that you need.
Key Information
Snack - We ask parents to provide their child with a healthy snack of fruit each day. Children in Reception are offered milk during snack time.
School dinners - School dinners are now FREE for all Reception children in Wales. Please choose from the options on Parent pay to preorder your children's dinners.
PE - PE is every Friday afternoon. Children need a plain white t-shirt, plain black shorts and black pumps or trainers.
Please encourage your child to dress and undress as independently as possible at home. This really helps when it comes to our PE sessions. Can they undo their own buttons/shoes/trousers? Have a go!
Forest School - Reception will have the chance to take part in some forest school sessions later on in the year. Teachers will provide more information.
Seesaw - We love to share our hard work with you at home. Keep an eye out for posts on Seesaw!
Seesaw is also a great way for us to stay in touch. The teachers will often send reminders and messages. You can also send the teacher a private message. As always you know where to find us in person.
Twitter (X) - Want to see more of what we are up to? @alexcptweets Keep your eyes peeled!
Home Reading - Reading books will be sent home every Wednesday and are to be returned every Monday. The expectation is that you read with your child each night. It has a huge impact when you help at home.
Homework - This is provided every half-term. Please see below.
Homework Grid
This half term our topic is Dyma Fi (“This is Me”). The children will spend the first few weeks settling into their new classroom, getting to know their teachers and new friends through circle times, games, and a range of activities. We will be learning our school routines and expectations, working together to create a happy, safe, and welcoming class community where everyone feels valued.
Children will explore their new environment and develop positive relationships with both adults and peers. They will work on sharing, turn-taking, and building friendships as we create a strong class ethos together. Through high-quality interactions, they will also develop their speaking and listening skills. They will be encouraged to engage in conversations with adults and their peers, learning how to take turns and maintain simple back-and-forth dialogue. We will also focus on following instructions and listening attentively to stories, developing the skills needed to join in, respond, and retell key events.
Alongside this, we will begin our Read Write Inc. phonics scheme. Children will start learning to read and write individual sounds, building the foundations for early reading and writing skills in a fun and engaging way.
Daily Fast Maths sessions will help children develop early number sense. They will practise counting, recognising numerals, and comparing amounts through songs, games, and hands-on activities. These sessions will also encourage mathematical language and problem-solving in playful contexts.
In Welsh, we will revisit our colours and feelings vocabulary while also practising simple conversational skills. The children will learn to answer basic questions such as “Pwy wyt ti?” (“Who are you?”) and begin using simple Welsh phrases in everyday routines.
By the end of the half term, the children will have grown in confidence as part of their new class, developing friendships, communication skills, and familiarity with routines while beginning their learning journey in phonics, literacy, numeracy, and Welsh.
