Our Focus - Gresford Mining Disaster
In this topic, we will explore the history of Wrexham through the story of the Gresford mining disaster and its lasting impact on our local community. We will visit and be visited by the Wrexham Miners Project to learn about life as a miner, working conditions, and the events surrounding the disaster. In Literacy, we will write diary entries from the perspective of miners and their families. We will also develop interview skills to create a podcast, design commemorative Wrexham AFC kits, and produce a class mural and clay memorial inspired by the Gresford colliery wheel, reflecting on remembrance and community.
