Croeso i Dosbarth Hazel
Welcome to Dobarth Hazel’s class page. In Dosbarth Hazel, Miss Jones is our class teacher and Mrs P and Miss Jones are our class teaching assistants.
Children in Dosbarth Hazel are encouraged to explore different areas in the classroom, both inside and outside. This provides great opportunities for the children to explore, discover and learn. We aim to provide the children with as many real life experiences as possible through fun, hands on and engaging activities. In Dosbarth Hazel, we really encourage independence to develop confident and capable learners. We have high expectations so our children can reach their full potential. There are lots of exciting opportunities in Dosbarth Hazel and we carefully monitor the progress of each individual child. Above all else we want children to feel happy and safe in school as part of Ysgol Alexandra.
Here on our class page, you will find all of the important information and documents that you need.
Key Information
Snack - We ask parents to provide their child with a healthy snack of fruit each day. Children in Reception are offered milk during snack time.
School dinners - School dinners are now FREE for all Reception children in Wales. Please choose from the options on Parent pay to preorder your children's dinners.
PE - PE is every Friday afternoon. Children need a plain white t-shirt, plain black shorts and black pumps or trainers.
Please encourage your child to dress and undress as independently as possible at home. This really helps when it comes to our PE sessions. Can they undo their own buttons/shoes/trousers? Have a go!
Forest School - Reception will have the chance to take part in some forest school sessions later on in the year. Teachers will provide more information.
Seesaw - We love to share our hard work with you at home. Keep an eye out for posts on Seesaw!
Seesaw is also a great way for us to stay in touch. The teachers will often send reminders and messages. You can also send the teacher a private message. As always you know where to find us in person.
Twitter (X) - Want to see more of what we are up to? @alexcptweets Keep your eyes peeled!
Home Reading - Reading books will be sent home every Wednesday and are to be returned every Monday. The expectation is that you read with your child each night. It has a huge impact when you help at home.
Homework - This is provided every half-term. Please see below.
Homework Grid
This half term, we’re setting off on a transport-themed adventure as we zoom, sail, fly and chug our way around the world!
We'll be exploring different types of transport – from speedy cars and rumbling trains to hot air balloons and sailboats. We’ll talk about how they move, the sounds they make, and where they belong – whether it’s land, sea or sky!
In our literacy sessions, we’ll be making lists of vehicles, describe how they move, and write our own descriptive sentences. In the role play area, we’ll be running our very own travel agents, booking holidays, creating tickets and planning trips to faraway places.
We’ll be challenging ourselves in different provision areas e.g. building runways in the construction area, and designing and testing boats and paper planes.
In maths, we’re looking at addition and subtraction. We'll count wheels, passengers and journeys, and use vehicles and transport scenes to help us solve problems and tell number stories.
In Welsh, we’ll be learning the names of different vehicles and practicing how to say them. We'll be asking and answering questions like “Ble mae'r trên?” (“Where is the train?”) and play games to help us.
All aboard for a journey of discovery!
